We are on many journeys in our lifetime and often we are on simultaneously journeys. Are you looking to simply get to the view, or are you paying attention to what is around you both up and down the mountain?
Our modern culture encourages us to ‘keep an eye on the prize’, but in doing so we forget about looking around. By taking our eyes off the prize, we are really seeing what is surrounding us. Perhaps that’s where the true prize lies, but we are so conditioned that we believe the journey to and from that prize isn’t worth paying attention to. Often reflection helps with this. Yes, you are where you wanted to be but maybe ‘the taste is not so sweet’, so what about the journey? What beautiful and delicious lessons have been held out before you to take and understand? What has made you grow beyond your expectations? By paying attention to our pilgrimages, not just the end result, we force ourselves to slow down, to wander, to look, study, admire and absorb along the way. The real test is to Trust that you will get to your view eventually, but maybe the journey along the way will be just as, if not more, beautiful.
